Xi Jinping awarded the flag, why should the domestic aircraft carrier be called "Shandong ship"

Learning group press]
Recently, at a military port in Sanya, Hainan, Xi Jinping awarded the August 1st military flag and naming certificate to the captain and political commissar of my country's first domestically-made aircraft carrier.

From it began to build, water, sea trial ......, its name has caused everyone to speculate, today the answer is finally revealed: Shandong ship! Gangway number "17"!

Why is the ship named Shandong? Let's take a look.

Rules
First of all, the navies of various countries have their own naming rules. For example, many countries are used to naming people, such as the "Ford" of the United States, the "Charles de Gaulle" of France, the "Prince of Wales" of the United Kingdom, and the "Kuznetsov" of Russia. "" The "No." and so on, members who are familiar with the military may know better, our People's Navy has its own naming rules, it is mainly based on the "Naval Vessel Naming Regulations" promulgated in 1978, which mainly focuses on place names.

In fact, it dates back to an earlier time. In the early days of the founding of New China, our People's Navy and Air Force were poor, and some foreign military aircraft and ships were like no one. After negotiation and negotiation, we purchased 4 destroyers from the Soviet Union. From 1954 to 1955, 4 ships arrived one after another. This is our original "Four King Kong": Changchun, Anshan, Fushun and Taiyuan.

With the development and growth of the people's Navy, especially in recent years, a large number of new warships have been listed, which is called "dumplings" in the words of military fans ". To avoid duplication, our ships are awarded essentially by region. Namely:

The North Sea Fleet uses the place names of 14 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) in North China, Northeast China and Northwest China; the East China Sea Fleet uses the place names of seven provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) in East China; and the South China Sea Fleet uses the place names of nine provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) in South China and Southwest China.

However, there are exceptions, such as the "Wuhan" and "Lanzhou" destroyers belonging to the South China Sea Fleet, which are not place names in South China and Southwest China. The frigates "Foshan" and "Huaihua" belong to the East China Sea Fleet.

"Shandong"
Although we are unable to determine which fleet the Shandong ship belongs to, it seems that everyone on the Internet has the same opinion on the naming of the Shandong ship. In 2017, when the domestic aircraft carrier was launched, a website organized netizens to vote on the topic of "What do you think is the most likely naming of China's first domestic aircraft carrier?", with 300000 netizens voting. In response to this, Colonel Yang Yujun, who was the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense at the time, also responded: Our military has corresponding regulations on the naming of naval vessels, which are usually announced when the ships are handed over. In this vote, Shandong ranked top three with 80000 votes.

According to the naming rules of the People's Navy, destroyers are generally named after "large and medium cities"; frigates are named after "medium and small cities"; comprehensive supply ships are named after "lakes", such as the "Qiandao Lake" supply ship; dock and tank landing ships are named after "mountains", such as the "Jinggangshan" ...... We also have people named, but usually training ships and weapons test ships, for example, the Dalian Naval Academy's "Zheng He" ocean-going comprehensive training ship, etc., while cruisers are named after administrative provinces (regions) or municipalities directly under the Central Government, and cruisers and above are specially named by the State Council.

Continuing the tradition of naming Liaoning ships after provinces, naming the first domestically-made aircraft carrier with Shandong, a major economic province, the home port of the aircraft carrier, one of the provinces with the largest number of troops, and a populous province with a fine revolutionary tradition, seems to be in line with the People's Navy The naming of naval vessels is based on the principle of "the name is loud and meaningful; it reflects the dignity of the country; it reflects the long history and culture of the Chinese nation; it can stand the test.

  “17”
In fact, Liaoning warship and Shandong warship are their Chinese names. The official name of each warship is the number painted on the ship's side, which is collectively referred to as the "gangway number".

According to the rules, the prefix 1 is a destroyer; the prefix 2 and the prefix 3 are conventional submarines; the prefix 4 is a nuclear submarine; the prefix 5 is a frigate; the prefix 6 is an anti-submarine frigate (submarine hunting); the prefix 7 is a missile frigate; the prefix 8 is a supply ship and a minesweeper; the prefix 9 is a landing ship; the prefix 33 is an air cushion landing craft......

At that time, when the Liaoning ship was listed, netizens had a lot of speculation about the meaning of "16". Some said it was to commemorate General Liu Huaqing, who made contributions to the aircraft carrier cause, because he was born in 1916; others said it was because it took China 16 years from the purchase to the reconstruction of the Liaoning ship. Although it is inconclusive, it is certain that the gangway number "17" of the Shandong ship is a continuation and inheritance of the Liaoning ship.

In the foreseeable future, the next or several domestic aircraft carriers in the future still leave us a lot of imagination, nuclear power, electromagnetic ejection take-off......
