From the Yan'an Rectification Movement

The Yan'an rectification movement began in May 1941, marked by Comrade Mao Zedong's report on "reforming our study" at the Yan'an senior cadres' meeting. By April 1945, the Seventh Plenary session of the sixth CPC Central Committee adopted the "Resolution on certain Historical issues", so that the whole party, especially the party's senior cadres, reached a consensus on the basic issues of China's democratic revolution on the basis of Marxism-Leninism. The Yan'an Rectification Movement created a successful example of strengthening the party's style of work by means of rectification. The formed style of combining theory and practice, the style of work closely linked with the people and the style of self-criticism, became the source of the style construction of the Communist Party of China, and shaped the unique personality strength of the Chinese Communists.

For more than 70 years since the end of the Yan'an rectification movement, the party-led revolution, construction, and reform have always run through the fine style of the Communist Party of China. The unremitting struggle for the construction of the party's style of work has brought about the greatness and prosperity of the party for a century. At present, our party is carrying out education on the theme of "Do not forget your initiative mind, Keeping in Mind Mission. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that the party's original intention and mission are the concentrated expression of the party's nature, purpose, ideals, beliefs, and goals. The longer it is in power, the more it cannot forget the party's original mission and the less it can lose its self-revolutionary spirit. Seriously reviewing and summarizing the history of our party's style construction is of great significance to promoting the theme education of "not forgetting the original intention and keeping in mind the mission.

Theory with practice is our party's consistent style of study

The development of the Yan'an Rectification Movement was closely related to the severe and complex situation facing our Party at that time. Prior to this, in the history of the party, there have always been ideological differences in the party on how to deal with Marxism-Leninism and the instructions of the Communist International. The focus of the differences is whether to adhere to the view of practice first, whether to adhere to the ideological line of proceeding from reality, integrating theory with practice, and seeking truth from facts. Before the outbreak of the all-out war of resistance, the party had already learned many lessons from victory and defeat. The main reason for the great twists and turns of the revolution is that the Party is still in its infancy, which is inexperienced. As far as the whole party is concerned, its understanding of the laws of Chinese society and the Chinese revolution is still very superficial, and it is not good at combining the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism with the concrete reality of the Chinese revolution. As a result, right or "left" mistakes have occurred. Since the Zunyi Conference, the party has corrected Wang Ming's "Left" mistakes characterized by dogmatism militarily and politically. However, it has not systematically and thoroughly liquidated this mistake ideologically. The ideological roots still lack a deep understanding. After the outbreak of the all-out war of resistance, the party's ranks have made great progress, adding more than 700,000 new party members. These new party members have high revolutionary enthusiasm, but most of them come from the peasants and the petty bourgeoisie. In the tense and cruel war environment, the party organization has not had time to give them a more systematic Marxist-Leninist education.

In October 1938, Mao Zedong clearly raised the issue of "Sinicization of Marxism" at the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Party. After the meeting, the party launched a Marxist theory study movement, but the influence of subjectivism was still great, posing a serious threat to the Chinese revolution. After the second anti-communist upsurge of the Kuomintang was defeated in the spring of 1941, since March, the Chinese Communists represented by Comrade Mao Zedong have successively taken some important measures to solve the problem of integrating theory with Chinese society and revolutionary reality. In May, Mao Zedong made a report on "Reforming Our Learning"; in September, the Central Committee held an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau. Senior party cadres studied and studied the party's history and summarized the party's historical experience in order to distinguish right from wrong from the political line. Facts have fully proved that the crisis of the Chinese revolution has not passed. Without a systematic, profound, and comprehensive rectification movement, and without solving the problem of wrong lines from the ideological roots, the Chinese revolution will have no bright future.

After nearly a year of full preparation from May 1941 to February 1942, from February 1942 to September 1943, the rectification movement was launched in the whole party, focusing on organizing party members and cadres to study Marxism-Leninism and clean up wrong thinking. Method and style. After that, from September 1943 to April 1945, an ideological consensus was formed by summing up historical experience.

The main content of the Yan'an Rectification Movement is to oppose subjectivism, sectarianism, and the establishment of a Marxist style. In view of the profound ideological shortcomings and painful practical lessons, opposing subjectivism to rectify the style of study has become the key to the rectification movement. After the rectification movement was launched, Mao Zedong firmly grasped the issue of ideological method and style. In his letter to the comrades of the Central Research Group, he pointed out that the study of theory should "focus on the study of ideological methodology". The most important thing is to follow the ideological line of seeking truth from facts and to integrate theory with practice. The term "seeking truth from facts" was not initiated by Mao Zedong, but it was Mao Zedong's credit to raise "seeking truth from facts" to the height of the party's ideological line. Mao Zedong stressed that "it is necessary to distinguish between creative Marxism and dogmatic Marxism", "publicize creative Marxism" and "make the Chinese revolution rich in practical Marxism". Those who cannot think theoretically about the practice of the Chinese revolution cannot be called Marxist theorists. Only a theory that is summarized from objective reality and proved in objective reality can be called the theory we are talking about.

To become a true Marxist theorist, we must integrate theory with practice, and through investigation and research, we must have an in-depth understanding of China's social conditions and the characteristics and laws of the Chinese revolution. Mao Zedong stressed that investigation and research is the basis for changing the Party's style of work. In August 1941, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made the "Decision on Investigation and Research" and the "Decision on the Implementation of Investigation and Research", and established the Investigation and Research Bureau. Mao Zedong personally served as the director of the investigation and research. Many leaders led in-depth investigations and studies at the grassroots level, and the results were fruitful, providing an important basis for the Party Central Committee to formulate various work guidelines and policies. Integrating theory with practice is the Marxist style of study that our party has always adhered to, the key to the party's vigorous creativity, and the root of our party's strong combat effectiveness. Mao Zedong combined the basic principles of Marxism with the practice of the Chinese revolution, established the style of study of integrating theory with practice, and made a significant contribution to the formation of the fine style of the Chinese Communist Party.

Mao Zedong attached great importance to the cultivation of the Marxist style of study of integrating theory with practice, and emphasized that we must always adhere to the close integration of Marxism with Chinese reality. The picture shows Mao Zedong giving a lecture to the students of the Northern Shaanxi Public School.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the First Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China that on the journey of the new era, all comrades in the party must promote the style of study of integrating theory with practice, closely connect with the historic changes in the cause of the party and the country, and closely connect with Chinese characteristics. The new reality of socialism entering a new era is closely linked to the major changes in the main contradictions of our society, closely linked to the "two centenary" goals and various tasks, consciously use theory to guide practice, make all aspects of work more in line with the requirements of objective laws, and continuously improve the ability to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. History enlightens us that the reason why our party can constantly go through difficulties and hardships to create new brilliance is to adhere to the integration of theory with practice, answer the questions of the times and the people in a timely manner, clear the ideological fog that perplexes and restricts the development of practice, and constantly promote the modernization and popularization of Marxism in China.
