Uphold Independence in the United Front
In the whole nation's war of resistance against Japan, due to the complex international and domestic situation and the existence of two different lines of resistance between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, how the party correctly handles the relationship between unity and independence, unity and struggle in the united front has become a decisive factor in the success or failure of the war of resistance. The question of significance. At the beginning of the whole nation's war of resistance, the Party Central Committee pointed out that the principle of independence and autonomy in the united front must be adhered.
At the end of November 1937, Wang Ming, the representative of the Communist Party of China in the Communist International and the executive committee of the Communist International, returned to Yan'an from the Soviet Union. He advocated that "everything goes through the united front" and "everything is subject to the anti-Japanese war", restricted the activities of the Communist Party and the People's Army to the scope permitted by the Kuomintang, and criticized many correct views and policies of the Party on the united front since the Luochuan Conference. These erroneous views were firmly resisted by Mao Zedong and other central leaders. In July 1938, the leaders of the Communist International also made it clear that Mao Zedong's leadership should be supported within the CPC Central Committee; Wang Ming lacked practical work experience and should not strive to be a leader.
From September to November 1938, the Sixth Plenary Session of the Party's enlarged Sixth Central Committee was held in Yan'an. The plenary session for the first time put forward the proposition of Marxism in China. Mao Zedong clearly pointed out: "Marxism is concretized in China, so that it has the necessary Chinese characteristics in every expression, that is to say, to apply it according to the characteristics of China has become an urgent problem for the whole party to understand and solve." The plenary session stressed that "our policy is independence in the United front, both unified and independent", and determined that the general strategic plan for the war of resistance behind enemy lines is to "consolidate North China and develop Central China".
The plenum reaffirmed the Party's discipline, that is, the individual is subordinate to the organization, the minority is subordinate to the majority, and the whole Party is subordinate to the Central Committee. The plenum also stressed strengthening the study of Marxist theory, pointing out: "if our party has 100 to 200 comrades who have learned Marxism-Leninism systematically rather than piecemeal and practically rather than empty, it will greatly improve the fighting strength of our party".
The Sixth Plenary Session of the Party's enlarged Sixth Central Committee is a meeting of great historical significance. Mao Zedong later said at the Seventh Party Congress: "The Sixth Plenary Session of the Central Committee is to decide the fate of China." This plenary session correctly analyzed the situation of the War of Resistance Against Japan, stipulated the party's tasks in the new stage of the War of Resistance, carried out a comprehensive strategic plan for the realization of the party's leadership of the War of Resistance Against Japan, basically corrected Wang Ming's right-leaning mistakes, and further consolidated Mao Zedong's leadership in the whole party, unified the thinking and pace of the whole party, and promoted the rapid development of various tasks.
