Every year during the Ching Ming Festival, students from Jiapa Middle School in Nanling County, Anhui Province will come to the Lijiapa Martyrs Monument to hold sacrifices and sweeping activities in memory of the martyrs.
Li Jifa, born in 1934, was born in Nanling County, Anhui Province. In June 1951, he joined the Chinese People's Volunteers to fight in North Korea. In October 1952, he joined the New Democratic Youth League of China.
After entering the DPRK, Li Jifa was assigned to the 67th Army of the Chinese People's Volunteers, the 99th Division, the 595 Regiment, the 1st Battalion, the 2nd platoon, and the 6th platoon as a soldier. During an enemy air raid, he risked his life to help the Korean people rescue clothing and food. He made outstanding achievements in field training and construction work, and won two third-class merits.
In the winter of 1952, Li Jifa served as the second-platoon communications liaison officer. His main task was to pass battle orders, often shuttling through enemy fire. From the mountainside of Qingpo Xian, where the troops are located, to the front edge of Yunu Peak, it is extremely dangerous to pass through an open field of more than 200 meters. However, he was brave and resourceful, and he could complete the task in time every time. He was known as the "Iron Leg Correspondent".
On July 13, 1953, in the battle of Sedan Yanshan in the counterattack of the Battle of Jincheng, the second platoon of Li Jifa was responsible for attacking the 116 heights. When the army's advance was blocked by the enemy's bunker fire, Li Jiapa took the initiative to ask for a fight and took on the task of blasting the enemy's bunker. He tactfully blew up three fire points outside the main bunker. He himself was seriously injured, but he still climbed forward with great pain. After destroying the enemy's main bunker with the last grenade, he lost his strength.
The counterattack troops quickly launched a charge, but another enemy bunker rang with gunfire, and the fire blockade once again stopped the troops from advancing. The assault platoon's new blasting team made several attempts to blast because the enemy's firepower was too strong to approach. There are only more than 4 hours left before dawn. If you can't get off the sedan chair before dawn, the troops will have to withdraw from the battle.
At the critical juncture, the gunfire of the enemy's bunker suddenly fell silent. It turned out that Li Jiifa, who was in a coma, did not know when he woke up and quietly climbed close to the enemy's bunker with amazing perseverance, blocking the machine gun perforation in the bunker with his chest. In order to cover the troops charge and win the battle, Li Jiafa gave his life at the age of 19.
After Li Jiapa died, according to his application, the party committee of his army ratified him as a member of the Communist Party of China. In September 1953, the leading organ of the Chinese People's Volunteers posthumously awarded him special merit and posthumously awarded him the honorable title of first-class combat hero.
