Duan Su led the Ministry to conquer "the first strong stronghold of the river"

In 1947, in the Northeast battlefield, the Northeast Field Army of the People's Liberation Army smashed the Kuomintang army's combat plan of "attacking the south and defending the north, first the south and then the north" after the "three trips to the south and four guarantees to the river", forcing it to turn to defense. Subsequently, in accordance with the instructions of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, the Northeast Field Army was determined to launch a summer offensive in order to change the situation in the Northeast, and requested the cooperation of the Jichareliao troops. The Jichareliao Military Region then decided to unify the command of the 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th 5. and cavalry brigades, with Rehe (the name of the old province) as the main battlefield to attack the enemy. The PLA soldiers pointed directly at the paddock, an important town in the west of Jehoe, and a battle to tackle tough problems began.
1. Jitrecha Military Region Accepts Tackling Tasks
Weichang is located 160 miles north of Longhua County. The city is long and narrow from south to north. Three north-south streets run through the town like "Chuan". There is a main street in the middle, and the Longhua-Duolun Highway passes through here. The west of the city has the triangle mountain, the west big mountain, the cone mountain, the mountain mountain is connected, the terrain is complex, the terrain is dangerous. These mountains are an important barrier for paddock defense and attack. There is a river on the east side of the city and the terrain is open. The enemies defending the paddock were the enemy's 13th Army, 4th Division, 10th Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 4th Division, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 4th Division, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 4th Division, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Anti-Artillery Company, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 1st Guards, 3rd Guards, 3rd Guards, 3rd Guards, 3rd Guards, 3rd Guards. The enemy built strong ring fortifications here; bunkers, open and dark bunkers and traffic trenches were built on the large and small mountains in the southwest of the city; and strong fire points were distributed on the main buildings in the city. Therefore, they arrogantly called the paddock "the first strong stronghold of Jehoe" and "the paradise of the front line outside the Great Wall", threatening to "hope that the Communist army will attack quickly".
After full reconnaissance of the enemy's situation, the front-line command of the Ji Cha, re, Liao Military District decided: "Concentrate the main force to attack the city for aid, not to attack the peripheral strongholds first, and to point directly at the enemy's heart." The task of capturing the paddock was handed over to the 5th and 13th brigades of the subordinate Jiecha military region. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the paddock battle, the military region also sent the 16th and 17th brigades to take on the rescue mission, responsible for blocking Chengde, Chifeng, Longhua, Fengning to help the enemy, and placed the cavalry brigade between the paddock and Duolun to guard the enemy in the direction of Hugou and Duolun.
After accepting the task, Duan Suquan, commander of the Jerecha Military Region, and Liu Daosheng, political commissar, immediately convened a meeting to convey the instructions of the superiors, and asked all troops to strengthen rectification and conduct strict inspections in terms of style, discipline, fighting spirit, technology, and tactics. In view of the fact that the paddock fortifications are solid, the troops gathered together cadres at and above the regiment level to study in detail the specific tactics for attacking the paddock. At the same time, the troops also asked the brigade teaching team to concentrate on the training of company and platoon cadres, the regiment to train the technical backbone of the squad and various combat groups, and asked all levels to try their best to inspire and guide everyone to use their brains and carry out various setting operations. In order to avoid talking on paper, various units have repeatedly pulled various specialized units and technical groups to the field for field exercises, repeatedly practicing the coordinated actions of the firepower team, the demolition team, and the commando team when attacking the bunker. After serious and painstaking training, the commanding ability of the commanders and the tactical level of the soldiers have been significantly improved.
On April 30, the Ji Cha Rei Liao Military Region issued the "War Heat Word No. 1 Order." on 2 may, duan suquan ordered the 5th and 13th brigades to set off toward the paddock. At that time, the 5th and 13th brigades were stationed in Chicheng and Guyuan counties, respectively, a long way from paddock. In order to reach the designated place on schedule, the vast number of commanders and fighters trekked through mountains and rivers, day and night. During the march, the soldiers ran barefoot and in big cotton-padded jackets against the scorching sun of early summer. Although his feet were worn out and he was sweating all over, there was no complaint.
2. Outpost Wins
On May 6, when the 13th Brigade entered the village of Wayaogou in Shanghuang Banner, the local reactionary gang and the Kuomintang security team stationed in Shanghuang Banner came to harass. The 37th Regiment of the 13th Brigade, with the cooperation of the 39th Regiment, immediately gave a head-on blow to the enemy and wiped out the incoming enemy.
Just as the battle was ending, a battalion of the Kuomintang regular army came from Fengshan Town to support it. Duan Suquan and Liu Daosheng urgently discussed and decided to annihilate the enemy on the spot.
After receiving the order, the 39th regiment entered the chimney ditch beam near the upper yellow flag and launched a fierce attack on the enemy from the southeast. With the help of precipitous terrain and sophisticated weapons and equipment, the enemy was commanding, desperately resisting, and the battle was extremely fierce.
after duan suquan received the report, he immediately ordered the fifth brigade, which had experience in mountain operations, to go into battle. The Fifth Brigade immediately sent 13 regiments to support the 39 regiments and launched attacks from the west and north respectively. The enemy was unable to resist and attempted to suppress the PLA offensive with a platoon of troops at the main peak to cover the breakout. With the cooperation of the 13th regiment, the 39th regiment immediately charged the enemy, destroyed most of the enemy, and seized 7 machine guns, 3 artillery guns, and nearly 100 long and short guns. When Chengde came to help the enemy drive a car, the battle was already over. The enemy had to set aside 12 cars, pull up the wounded soldiers lying on the ground, and flee back to Chengde in a hurry. The next day, Duan Suquan held a battle summary meeting in Shihe Village, asking all troops to pay attention to learning from experience and lessons to further enhance their combat effectiveness.
3. conquer "the first strong stronghold"
At about 14: 00 on May 14, the 13th Brigade arrived at the scheduled site of the paddock battle. Subsequently, the brigade chief led cadres above the battalion to climb the mountain and conducted a close survey of the topography of the paddock, the enemy's deployment and the fortifications. According to the report of the 13th Brigade, Duan Suquan made appropriate modifications and adjustments to the paddock's combat plan and deployment: it was decided to use one battalion of the 37th, 39th and 38th regiments of the 13th Brigade as the attack mission, and the rest as reserve teams, and issued combat orders to the participating troops.
At 18:00 on the 14th, the PLA troops secretly entered the periphery of the paddock and wiped out the guard mobile troops guarding the enemy in only 20 minutes.
At 1: 00 a.m. on the 15th, with the red flares rising in the air, a platoon of the first company and the third company of the first battalion of the 39th regiment took the lead in the paddock battle: they quickly advanced to the east wall of the paddock along both sides of the river, defeating the enemy's peripheral security forces in one fell swoop. Immediately afterwards, the second company quickly captured a bunker outside the southeast corner of the city. After discovering that there was a tunnel leading to the city, he entered the tunnel and burst into the city, and blew up a large bunker on the city wall, wiping out more than 20 enemies inside. At this time, the first battalion also all broke into the city, joined with the second battalion, and attacked deep into the city together. As they marched, they joined forces with the three battalions of the thirty-eighth regiment that had invaded the city, and the three troops went west together. After seizing the Kuomintang county government and other important places, the PLA quickly launched a fierce attack on the bank compound where the enemy's regiment headquarters was located.
While the 39th and 38th regiments and 3rd battalions moved forward, the 37th regiments also fought fiercely with the enemy. Due to the destruction of the road by the enemy, the 37th Regiment advanced slowly and launched several attacks on the enemy position on Xiaozhizi Mountain, but none of them worked. Soon the fraternal troops came to support them, and the 37th Regiment captured the enemy position on Xiaozhizishan. Subsequently, the Second Company of the First Battalion of the 37th Regiment launched an attack on Xidashan. Because the enemy's firepower was too strong, the Second Company was tightly suppressed in the ravine. In order to take down the western mountain as soon as possible, the 37th regiment sent the 2nd battalion and 6th company to fight. Soon, a platoon from the Fifth Company came to reinforce after completing the task, and the troops finally attacked the West Mountain and annihilated the defending enemy. After the battle of the West Dashan, the three battalions also occupied the southwest corner of the city.
As a reserve, the first and second battalions of the 38th regiment occupied an unknown highland and Phoenix Ridge in the east of the city, and successively conquered three enemy bunkers. At this time, the 39th regiment had developed in depth into the city, dividing and annihilating the enemy in the city. After receiving the report, the head of the 13th brigade immediately transferred the second battalion of the 38th regiment to reinforce and speed up the end of the battle. By the time the second battalion of the 38th regiment arrived, the 39th regiment had already driven the enemy out of its position and pursued the enemy separately with the 37th regiment. Upon seeing this, the second battalion of the 38th regiment immediately detoured along the city wall to the north gate of the paddock to intercept the fleeing enemy and wipe out most of them. After breaking through the encirclement, the crippled enemy fled to the mountain where the enemy was still guarding, and was wiped out by the Third Battalion of the 38th Regiment, which had been waiting there for a long time.
As enemy positions inside and outside the city were conquered, the PLA ministries began to gather at the bank compound where there were still remnants of the enemy, and launched a political offensive to preach policy. However, the enemy still fired wildly and refused to surrender. It turned out that the defending enemy received contact from the Kuomintang reinforcements, saying that they would arrive soon and asked them to "hold on a little longer". In fact, after the paddock battle started, the enemies of Chengde, Chifeng, Longhua, and Fengning were constrained by the 16th Brigade, 17th Brigade and other aid forces. Some were repelled as soon as they set out, and some were not dispatched at all. However, the enemy in the paddock really listened to the nonsense of aiding the enemy and imagined the arrival of reinforcements.
The enemy's intransigence has aroused the anger of the majority of commanders and fighters. the fourth company and the sixth company of the thirty-ninth regiment started blasting and used explosive bags to blow up the walls of the bank courtyard. the commandos burst into the courtyard from the northwest corner and the northeast corner respectively, wiping out all the stubborn enemies. At 6 p.m., the battle ended victoriously.
The battle of paddock was the first victory of Duan Su's power department in the summer offensive, which dealt a heavy blow to the enemy and seized a large number of weapons and ammunition. The "Ji-re-Liao Daily" published an editorial praising the paddock victory as "an example of a battle of annihilation".
