Xinhuanet, Beijing, August 28 (Wang Ying) The Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference on the afternoon of August 28 to announce the 2020 Tan Kah Kee Science Award winners and Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award winners. Five projects including "Experimental Discovery of Pentaquark" won the Tan Kah Kee Science Award, and 6 others including Peking University professor Guan Qi'an won the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award.

The Tan Kah Kee Science Award Foundation was established in 2003 and funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Bank of China. The foundation established the Tan Kah Kee Science Award to reward major original scientific and technological achievements made in China recently. In 2010, the foundation added the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award to reward young scientific and technological talents under the age of 40 who have independently made important original scientific and technological achievements in China. Both awards highlight "original scientific and technological achievements" and encourage scientists to engage in basic scientific research.

The reporter learned that the Tan Kah Kee Science Award and the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award are selected every two years. Relying on the evaluation organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, six awards are set up respectively, including the Mathematical Science Award, the Chemical Science Award, the Life Science Award, the Earth Science Award, the Information Technology Science Award and the Technology Science Award. The selection of the 2020 Tan Kah Kee Science Award and the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award was launched on January 1, 2019. After recommend, effective candidate project review, domestic and foreign peer expert communication review, formal candidate project review, and council final review, 5 Tan Kah Kee Science Award winning projects (information technology science award vacancy) and 6 Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award winners were finally produced.

At the press conference, Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chairman of the Tan Kah Kee Science Award Foundation, congratulated the winning scientists. He pointed out that the Tan Kah Kee Science Award is committed to rewarding outstanding scientific and technological achievements, motivating outstanding scientific and technological talents, and promoting international-level strategic The emergence of scientific and technological talents, scientific and technological leaders, young scientific and technological talents and high-level innovation teams promotes the enhancement of the international academic influence of my country's scientific and technological circles, to play an important role in the construction of an innovative country and a world scientific and technological power. Today, with the vigorous rise of a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the country has raised the importance of basic research to an unprecedented height. The Tan Kah Kee Science Award will strive to play the role of stimulating the original innovation vitality of basic research, and guide and encourage scientific and technological workers to be original. Work hard and focus on enhancing independent innovation capabilities.
