The Origin of the Appellation of "Army"
The term "children's soldiers" is the people's cordial name for their own army, which comes from the anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines in Jinchaji, which was led by Nie Rongzhen. In November 1937, Nie Rongzhen, commander and political commissar of the Shanxi-Cr-Hebei military region, led a 3000-strong armed force to create the first anti-Japanese base area behind enemy lines in the border areas of Shanxi (Shanxi), Chahar (then Chahar Province) and Hebei (Hebei). after establishing the base areas, nie rongzhen immediately set about expanding the people's armed forces. At that time, in Jinchaji, there were many army names with regional colors, such as "Fupingying", "Hui detachment", "Lingshou camp" and "Pingshan regiment. In May 1939, Nie Rongzhen issued a general order to commend the Pingshan regiment for its bravery and repeated meritorious service. He was "an excellent Pingshan soldier who defended the nation, the border region and his hometown". This is the first time that the term "army" has been used to refer to the people's armed forces under the leadership of the Party. At the end of 1939, the Shanxi-Cr-Hebei military region won the winter anti-"mopping-up" campaign, and people from all walks of life sent a large number of congratulatory letters and telegrams, praising General Nie Rongzhen for his good command and repeated outstanding achievements. Nie Rongzhen replied in the "Anti-Enemy News" that Jinchaji became a strong Great Wall for the War of Resistance behind enemy lines, which was "created by the flesh and blood of the fathers and soldiers in the border area". The "Anti-enemy Three-day Journal" founded by the Jinchaji Military Region was also renamed "Children's Soldiers". In this way, the term "children's soldiers" closely combines the tasks undertaken by the army with the vital interests of the masses, and can better reflect the deep feelings of the army and the people. After visiting Jinchaji in the spring of 1940, Li Gongpu, a famous democrat, wrote the book "behind enemy lines in North China-Jinchaji" (published in 1940), which praised: "the soldiers are the sons of the common people. The brothers of the anti-Japanese troops who resolutely beat the devils are the anti-Japanese troops who have their roots in Jinchaji." Later, the five characters "people's soldiers" became the people's cordial appellation for the revolutionary armed forces led by our party, and they have been used to this day.
