People's Daily Online, Buenos Aires, November 30 (Reporters Guan Kejiang and Wang Hailin) On November 30, local time, the informal meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. President Xi Jinping, President Ramaphosa of South Africa, President Temer of Brazil, President Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Modi of India attended the meeting. The leaders of the five countries exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensus on issues such as the world economic situation, coping with current challenges and BRICS cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by President Ramaphosa of South Africa, the rotating presidency of the BRICS mechanism.

In his speech, Xi Jinping pointed out that in July this year, the leaders of the BRICS countries held a fruitful meeting in Johannesburg and reached many important consensuses. At present, the risks of the world economy are rising, and multilateralism and the multilateral trading system are being impacted. This is not in the common interests of the international community. In the context of the current unprecedented changes in a century, the BRICS countries must strengthen unity, stabilize the direction, closely communicate and coordinate, show responsibility, and jointly promote global governance along the right path, and maintain the stability, development and prosperity of the world economy.

First, we must firmly support multilateralism. We should uphold the spirit of helping each other in the same boat, strengthen coordination and cooperation within the framework of the G20, the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, jointly safeguard multilateralism and the rules-based international order, oppose protectionism and unilateralism, and promote international cooperation to meet major challenges.

Second, we need to continuously improve global economic governance. We must grasp the direction of WTO reform. The core values and basic principles of the World Trade Organization must not be lost, and the special and differential treatment enjoyed by developing countries must be guaranteed. The important role of the dispute settlement mechanism in regulating trade relations should be strengthened. We should continue to promote the reform of the international monetary and financial system and further enhance the representation and voice of emerging market countries and developing countries.

Third, we must continue to promote the common development of all countries. The BRICS countries should lead emerging market countries and developing countries to prioritize development issues in the global policy framework and fully implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We must adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and promote the parties to complete the negotiations on the implementation rules of the Paris Agreement as scheduled. Developed countries should be urged to fulfill their official development assistance commitments and provide financial, technical and capacity-building support to developing countries.

Fourth, we should vigorously deepen BRICS practical cooperation. It is necessary to accelerate the partnership for the new industrial revolution and jointly cultivate new momentum for economic growth. We should fully unleash the potential of the BRICS and let BRICS cooperation benefit other emerging market countries and developing countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the BRICS countries are all important members of the G20 and should work together to support Argentina in hosting this G20 summit, achieve positive results that are responsible to the world and the people, and issue support for multilateralism and strengthen international cooperation., A strong voice to promote mutual benefit and win-win results. Brazil is about to take over the chairmanship of the BRICS. China will fully support Brazil's work next year, deepen strategic partnership with the BRICS countries, and make greater contributions to world peace and development.

The leaders of the participating countries said that world politics, economy, and trade are facing severe challenges, and unilateralism and protectionism are worrying. In this situation, the increasing strategic cooperation among BRICS countries is encouraging. The BRICS countries should enhance unity and cooperation, promote practical cooperation in economy and trade, energy, science and technology, finance, humanities, health and other fields, and solidly promote partnership cooperation in the new industrial revolution to better benefit the people of all countries. The BRICS countries should make a firm voice in support of multilateralism, the rule-based multilateral trading system and the opposition to protectionism, so as to play an active role in maintaining international peace and security, promoting balanced and inclusive global growth, improving global economic governance, and upholding an international order based on fairness and mutual respect. We should strengthen cooperation with African countries and other countries in the process of implementing the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, and jointly safeguard the interests of emerging market countries and developing countries. We should uphold the Paris Agreement on climate change and promote the G20 leaders' summit to make a positive voice in this regard.
