Dong Biwu with a clear distinction between public and private
Dong Biwu, together with Xie Juezai, Lin Boqu, Xu Teri and Wu Yuzhang, was honored as the "Five Elders in Yan'an". Dong Biwu has always had a clear distinction between public and private, never seeking privileges for relatives, and is still respected by people until now.
Not helping children find work.
Dong Biwu and his wife He Lianzhi have three children. When his eldest son Liang Yu was born, Dong Biwu felt that the country's industry was too poor at that time. He hoped that when their generation grew up, the country could build airplanes. He believed that a country's ability to manufacture airplanes means that it is prosperous and strong, so he named his first child "Liangyu". Out of this idea, when the second child was born, Dong Biwu continued to make an article on the word "feather" and named her "Liang Hui" (sound hu: and), which means the color of feathers. After the birth of the youngest child, he was named "Liang Hui" (sound hé), which means the stem of the bird feather.
Dong Lianghui originally worked in the army, because his eyesight was not suitable for drawing, so he retired from active service to study in Peking University. At the time of graduation assignment, because she had no job assignment, the school leader said to her, "go home to your father and see if there is any way." When she got home, her father said to her, "What can I do? Then you can stay at home." Later, some students in the school could not finish their studies because they failed their studies. Dong Lianghui got a vacancy and was assigned to a primary school to teach. When she reported to the Education Bureau, someone informed her that the school was no longer open and asked her to go home and wait. Soon, a classmate from Peking University called and said that she had been transferred to a job. It turned out that one of her classmates assigned to the Foreign Affairs Bureau was returned by the unit, so she went to the Foreign Affairs Bureau at that time to replace the vacancy of her classmates. In the Foreign Affairs Bureau, Dong Lianghui worked as an editor for more than 20 years.
Don't help cousin loan
In 1954, a catastrophic flood occurred in the Yangtze River Basin. Dong Xianxu, a distant cousin of Dong Biwu, was ill due to floods in his hometown. In October of that year, he wrote to his third brother Dong Biwu twice, hoping to introduce the bank to get loans to tide over the difficulties. On October 24, Dong Biwu asked his secretary to write a reply on behalf of his illness, refusing his cousin's request for a loan and squeezing out some money from his living expenses to relieve his cousin's emergency.
Dong Biwu said in his reply: "This year, our country has suffered more floods, and some places have suffered more disasters. People in the disaster-stricken areas all have their own difficulties, and the government allocates a lot of food and materials for relief, but the disaster-stricken area is large and has a large population. After all, the government's relief for each disaster victim is limited, mainly relying on the joint efforts of the disaster victims and local people to produce and survive the famine ...... The People's Bank of China's loans are mainly to help production, such as asking for loans for lack of seeds and tillage for agricultural production, which the bank will definitely be considered, I don't need to introduce such a thing. As for bank loans, my introduction does not take effect. Please note that the country is now the people's country. People working in state organs must serve the people. Except for the functions and powers prescribed by law, no one has privileges. It seems that this point is not very clear in your mind... In order to save your urgent, in my living expenses to allocate some money to you. This, of course, does not solve your current difficulties, but what more power do I have to help you?"
Dong Lianghui said that his father seemed to be "inhuman", but in fact he was "in love and reason.
Equal treatment
Dong Biwu was a scholar in the Qing Dynasty. He wrote very well in calligraphy. He stipulated that he must write 100 Chinese letters every day. If there is no condition to write on the road on this day, it will be made up the next day. If he doesn't write for 3 consecutive days, he will also fill in the 300 words left behind.
Dong Biwu is very concerned about the children's learning situation. The first two sentences in his motto to Dong Lianghui are: "Learning must be persistent, especially concentration." In a letter from home, Dong Biwu said to the children: "The biggest problem in young students is that they are not easy to learn." The communication between Dong Biwu and the children is not so much the communication between father and son, father and daughter, as it is more appropriate to be friends. In a letter to Dong Lianghui's family, he said, "You said that I was too impatient, and you were right. I was not only impatient, but also too harsh on people ...... Later some changes, but the root cause of the disease was not completely removed, and sometimes relapsed. You exposed my problem this time, and I am determined to change it." Dong Lianghui said that fathers really treat their children on an equal footing and will not use paternalistic authority to suppress their children. This is a place worthy of learning for current parents.
