The Origin of the "New Long March"

Since Mao Zedong wrote the "Seven Lü · Long March" in October 1935, and at the end of the same year, he highly summarized and evaluated the significance of the Long March at the Wayaobao Party Activists Conference in northern Shaanxi, the term "Long March" has gradually Become a proper term involving great spirit, great cause and great victory. Almost at the same time, the term "new long march" began to appear.
On February 20, 1936, Zhang Wentian wrote the article "On the Eastern Expedition of the Red Army". While comprehensively expounding the significance of the Red Army's Eastern Expedition, he mentioned that some comrades believed that this Eastern Expedition "may be the beginning of a new Long March". This is the earliest record of the term "New Long March" in the party literature that the author can find at present.
Here, the "New Long March" only reflects the original meaning of the words, that is, compared with the Red Army's Long March in the 25,000, the Red Army's Eastern Expedition is regarded by some comrades as the "New Long March" in military significance ".
In March 1949, Mao Zedong pointed out at the Second Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee of the Party: "To win national victory is only the first step in the Long March." Here, Mao Zedong gave the "Long March" political significance and new connotations of the times.
Since then, "New Long March" has gradually evolved into a new word in modern Chinese-"New Long March", which is used to refer to the practical process of hard struggle to achieve new goals in the new historical stage. With the glorious victory of the Red Army's Long March in history as a foreshadowing, the symbolic meaning of the "New Long March" is more exciting and resonating.
