Song Mao's unique letter

In the ice sculpture spirit exhibition hall of a brigade of the 83rd group army, a page of folded paper is quietly displayed. This is a unique letter written by song amao, a Shanghai soldier in the battle of Changjin Lake.
On November 27, 1950, the leader of the 9th Corps of the Volunteer Army decided to seize the favorable opportunity when the enemy's forces were scattered and the regiment had not yet been found to assemble, and ordered the 20th and 27th armies to launch a counterattack against the enemy in the Changjin Lake area. On the evening of the 27th, the 20th and 27th armies of the 9th corps of the volunteers attacked the enemy at the same time. At that time, North Korea suffered the worst cold in a century, with heavy snow and several feet of snow, and the temperature once reached minus 40 degrees Celsius. This kind of bad weather has brought great difficulties to the officers and soldiers of the 9th Corps who had been active in East China for a long time and lacked combat experience under the conditions of freezing weather and high mountains and deep snow. However, the officers and men of the 9th Corps were brave and tenacious, not afraid of sacrifice, and completed the arduous strategic task. Through a wide range of interspersed and circuitous outflanking, the 1st and 7th infantry divisions of the US Army were cut into five sections, forming a favorable situation of dividing and annihilating.
The U.S. military is preparing to withdraw under the encirclement of our troops. In order to wipe out the U.S. military in the Changjin Lake area, the 6th Company, 2nd Battalion, 177th Regiment, 59th Division, 20th Army, was ordered to ambush in Dead Eagle Ridge Heights, ready to give the U.S. military a fatal blow.
At noon on the 29th, the dead eagle ridge mountain back remnant enemy, in the aid of the enemy response, divided into three ways to attack the dead eagle ridge high ground. The enemy's firepower was fully fired, and for a time the fire net was intertwined and the bombs rained down. Song Amao, head of the volunteer assault team, rushed to the front. He shouted loudly: "We are the company of heroes and the company of great achievements. We must stick to our position and never take a step back!" Inspired by Song Amao, the soldiers fought back bravely and held their positions.
In the early morning of the 30th, the original plan was for the 6th company to wipe out the remaining enemies in the dead eagle ridge valley, but they did not hear one shot from the company. the 177th regiment sent people to the dead eagle ridge to check. The officers and soldiers who went to check were instantly shocked by the scene in front of them. On Dead Eagle Ridge, rows of volunteer soldiers were lying prone on dripping ice positions, holding steel guns and grenades in their hands, maintaining battle formations and combat postures, as if they were "ice sculptures" that sprang up. Later, the comrades in arms found a page on Song Amao's body: "I love my relatives and my motherland, and I love my honor even more. I am an honorable volunteer soldier. Ice and snow, I will never succumb to you, even if it is freezing to death, I will stand proudly (on the ground) on my position."
The warrior is with the position, the hero is with the sun and the moon. These soldiers who became "ice sculptures" maintained a fighting posture until their death, showing the heroic spirit of fighting bravely and fearing life and death; even if they became "ice sculptures", their eyes still seemed to spray the anger of the same enemy.
In order to retain the company structure, the 59th division reorganized the 6th company of the 2nd battalion. This unique letter was preserved and became the heirloom of the "Ice Sculpture Company". It interprets the bloody nature of the officers and soldiers of the "Ice Sculpture Company" who are not afraid of strong enemies and see death as home. It has become the winning code of the company and the succession of "Ice Sculpture Company". The inexhaustible spiritual source of the descendants.
