Sun Exploration Satellite "Kuafu 1" Releases First Scientific Image

Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, 24 Nov (reporters Wang Jueping and Zhang Quan) the reporter learned from the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that China's comprehensive solar exploration satellite "Kuafu 1" recently obtained solar hard X-ray images and released them to the public. This is also the first time that scientific images have been released after the launch of "Kuafu 1.
It is reported that this is the only solar hard X-ray image taken from a near-Earth perspective in the world, and its image quality has reached the international advanced level.
Gan Weiqun, chief scientist of "Kuafu 1", said that the image released this time is an imaging of an M-class solar flare that broke out at 1: 00 (Universal Time) on November 11 and was taken by the satellite payload hard X-ray imager (HXI). Although it is still in the testing period, the imaging effect is already excellent, from which the details of the eruption and the fine structure of the sun can be identified.
The full name of the "Kuafu-1" satellite is the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S). It is a comprehensive satellite dedicated to solar exploration and was successfully launched at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on October 9, 2022. The scientific goal of the satellite is "one magnetic two storms", that is, to simultaneously observe the solar magnetic field and the two most violent explosive phenomena on the sun-flares and coronal mass ejections, and to study their formation, evolution, interaction, correlation, etc., and at the same time Provide support for space weather forecasting. The hard X-ray imager is one of the three major satellite payloads, led by the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and undertakes the task of observing the non-thermal radiation of solar flares in "one magnetic two storms.
Zhang Zhe, chief designer of the load of the hard X-ray imager, and Su Yang, a data scientist, said that since the "Kuafu -1" was in orbit for more than a month, the hard X-ray imager has carried out various on-orbit tests and calibration work.
At present, the load state is normal, and all functions and performances meet the requirements of the design index, and it has been successfully put into scientific observation activities. After the completion of the subsequent calibration, the load image quality is expected to be further improved.
