Chinese Academy of Sciences Launches Action Plan Science and Technology Support Carbon Peak Carbon Neutrality

The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced in Beijing the launch of the "Chinese Academy of Sciences Science and Technology Support Carbon Peak Carbon Neutrality Strategic Action Plan" (hereinafter referred to as the "Action Plan"). The "Action Plan" strives to break through a number of key technologies that support carbon peak by 2025; by 2030, the key technologies that support carbon peak reach the international advanced level; by 2060, break through a number of original and disruptive technologies and realize application.
Zhang Tao, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and member of the Party group, said that in order to thoroughly implement the major decision-making and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council on carbon neutralization, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has strengthened the top-level design, given full play to the advantages of multi-disciplinary institutionalization, and organized academicians and experts to form an "action plan" after nearly half a year's discussion and condensation ".
According to Academician Ding Chibiao, Director of the Bureau of Major Science and Technology Tasks of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "Action Plan" focuses on solving key core scientific and technological problems, and systematically arranges scientific and technological strategic research, basic frontier cross-innovation, key core technology breakthroughs, new technology comprehensive demonstration, and talent support. Eight major actions including cultivation, international cooperation support, innovation system capability improvement, and double-carbon science popularization. Facing the major scientific and technological needs of the dual-carbon strategy, with scientific and technological innovation as the core task, in the fields of energy and carbon sinks, from basic research, key core technology breakthroughs to comprehensive demonstration of the whole chain layout, and at the same time, focusing on scientific and technological innovation tasks, in the construction of talent teams and international cooperation, Platform conditions, popular science and communication and other aspects of all-round support and guarantee, the specific implementation of 18 key tasks.
It is reported that the Chinese Academy of Sciences has deployed and implemented a number of strategies in the field of "double carbon", such as "key technologies and demonstrations of transformative clean energy", "carbon budget certification and related issues in response to climate change", "beautiful China ecological civilization construction science and technology project", etc, A number of original and significant achievements have been made in the basic theory of energy conversion, key technologies of fossil energy and renewable energy, pollution prevention and control and comprehensive management. In October 2021, the Chinese Academy of Sciences specially deployed the pilot project of "Clean Coal Combustion and Low-carbon Utilization", which aims to ensure the security of China's energy and industrial chain and support the strategy of energy power by breaking through key technologies such as flexible peak shaving of coal-fired power generation.
