There is a bright road ahead, and don't forget the twists and turns in China.

The Communist Party of China's foreign exchanges]

In 1945, facing the dawn of victory in the world anti-fascist war, the United Nations Constituent Assembly was held in San Francisco. China attended the meeting as one of the victorious countries in World War II. Dong Biwu, a veteran of our party, attended the meeting as a member of the Chinese delegation and solemnly signed the Charter of the United Nations. This is the first time in the history of the Communist Party of China to send official representatives to go abroad and participate in international multilateral affairs, and it has realized our party's first appearance on the international political stage. Exactly half a century ago, China restored its legitimate seat in the United Nations. However, when we look back on history, the relationship between the Communist Party of China and the United Nations began as far away as Dong Biwu attended the United Nations Constituent Assembly. Our party's political contribution to the founding of the United Nations and the birth of the "United Nations Charter" should be remembered by history and future generations.

At that time, the Kuomintang government attempted to monopolize the entire number of seats in the Chinese delegation. Through fierce struggle, our party finally forced Chiang Kai-shek to reluctantly agree to Dong Biwu to join the delegation as the only representative of the Communist Party of China.

On April 6, 1945, Dong Biwu led Zhang Hanfu, editor-in-chief of Xinhua Daily, Chen Jiakang, translator, and others to set off from Yan'an. Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Lin Boqu and other hundreds of people went to see him off. Chen Yi touched the scene and gave it a poem: "When the public waits for the volley to go, the Chinese spirit is strong. ...... represents 40 million, and the sunrise is red."

The Chinese delegation to the Constituent Assembly consists of 10 members, headed by Song Ziwen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the National Government. At that time, Hu Shi, Gu Weijun and Wei Daoming were already in the United States, while the six representatives in Chongqing took Song Ziwen's private plane and flew directly to the United States.

Dong Biwu and his party are far less convenient. They first flew from Yan'an to Chongqing, then took a small military plane, first flew over the Himalayas to Calcutta, India, then transferred to the Middle East, crossed Africa, flew across the Atlantic Ocean, came to Brazil, then transferred to LaGuardia Airport in New York, USA, and finally flew from New York to San Francisco on April 24, which took nearly 20 days. Dong Biwu, who is over sixty years old, has been tossing and turning all the way and rushing about. It is not hard.

On April 25, the United Nations Constituent Assembly opened in the magnificent San Francisco Grand Theater. The meeting set up four special committees, and Dong Biwu participated in the Third Committee, which dealt with the issue of the competence and veto power of the Security Council, and the discussion was the most intense. The Chinese delegation proposes three amendments to the draft Charter of the United Nations: first, if an international incident endangers peace occurs, the Security Council should have the right to adopt temporary measures; second, if a party to the dispute is unable to implement the judgment of the International Court of Justice, the Security Council can take measures to make it effective; third, when non-members of the United Nations become a party or parties to an international conflict, when the dispute is submitted to the United Nations General Assembly or the Security Council, The Charter should have a corresponding statement. With China's efforts and persistence, the first and third items were adopted and finally written into the Charter, making a significant political contribution to the founding of the United Nations.

On May 1, the Chinese delegation held a high-profile Chinese and foreign press conference, attended by more than 600 journalists. Journalists were curious about the legendary "dangerous CCP. An American reporter asked Dong Biwu to stand up and "see if he is dangerous". Dong Biwu is proficient in English. Without waiting for an interpreter, he stood up and nodded to everyone with a smile on his face. The reporters saw a gentle, bearded elder. Dong Biwu talked to the reporter with Kan Kan: "I will first tell you a fable, the title is" hearsay. "it is said that someone is digging a well, some people say that someone is digging a well, and some people say that someone has dug a well, and the result is getting more and more out of shape. It can be seen that hearsay cannot be trusted. I am standing in front of you today. Do you think I look like a dangerous person?" the humorous opening remarks made the reporters feel the demeanor of a communist who is neither humble nor arrogant, solemn and modest, and the rumors are self-defeating. Dong Biwu also won the respect of the members of the Chinese delegation. Gu Weijun later wrote, "He is the oldest member of the Chinese delegation, a man who has read ancient books, amiable, but quite astute ...... He is a little older, but he is familiar with international affairs, which makes me quite surprised."

On June 26, the signing ceremony of the Charter of the United Nations was held. In accordance with the procedure agreed by the General Assembly, the Chinese delegation was the first to sign the Charter. In a solemn atmosphere, Dong Biwu signed the three vigorous and powerful italic characters of "Dong Biwu" with a brush. This precious historical record is still preserved in a chic glass cabinet on the third floor of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

our party regards attending the meeting also as a rare opportunity to break the news blockade of the kmt. Dong Biwu instructed his assistants Zhang Hanfu and Chen Jiakang to compile and print the 5000 English pamphlet "Records of China's Liberated Areas", which was widely distributed among representatives of various countries, journalists and American people attending the United Nations Conference, and aroused strong repercussions. Dong Biwu also delivered speeches entitled "The Basic Policies of the Communist Party of China" and "The Key to China Issues", which used a large number of detailed facts to explain the basic policies that the Communist Party of China has always adhered to, and to win the understanding and sympathy of international friends and overseas Chinese.

During his stay in the United States, Dong Biwu also had extensive contacts with people from all walks of life in the United States and overseas Chinese, sowing the seeds of friendship. An old overseas Chinese in his twenties said: "He is a kind person, and he will listen to me and speak his heart." The Chinese Institute of Overseas Chinese Associations in New York's Chinatown hosted a public banquet for the Chinese delegation, but Dong Biwu was not invited to attend under the control of the Kuomintang. The members of the New York Overseas Chinese Laundry Association were very angry when they learned about it, and immediately held a separate welcome dinner for Dong Biwu at the "Top Good Restaurant" to express their respect for the Communist Party. The overseas Chinese shook hands with Dong Biwu and wept, saying, "You are China's hope, the real hope." The next day, the front page of the "New York Overseas Chinese Daily" published a large photo of Dong Biwu shaking hands with his compatriots, and introduced the banquet under the title "Light of Hope in China", which caused a great shock to the overseas Chinese community. As Chinese-American Kuang Zhizhong said: "When thinking about China's future in the post-war world, almost no one among the Chinese thought that the continuation of the Kuomintang dictatorship would be beneficial."

As a member of the Chinese delegation, Dong Biwu has a considerable amount of expenses for installation, living expenses and communication, but he is careful in every expenditure, and the cost of living is reduced again and again. On the second day of his arrival in the United States, Dong Biwu bought a suit for $25, which became his only suit for diplomatic activities in the United States. Dong Biwu did not live in a hotel, but lived in a dormitory for overseas Chinese, firing his own fire and cooking. His old towel was worn out and still in use. The local Chinese friends couldn't look down and bought him a new towel before replacing the old one. In this way, Dong Biwu saved more than 2500 US dollars, plus donations from overseas Chinese, bought a set of printing equipment worth 30000 US dollars for Xinhua Daily, and donated 10000 US dollars to overseas Chinese daily. After returning home, daughter Dong Lianghui could not help but ask her father what "foreign goods" she had brought to them. Dong Biwu said calmly, "No, not at all. All the rest of the money has been filled in to confiscate public property. You don't think this is too inhuman, do you? Our current life in Yan'an is still very bitter, and the life of the people across the country is even more bitter. Our one cent should be used as two cents, and what can be saved should be saved. The money saved should be used for official business as much as possible, first public and then private!"

On November 20, Dong Biwu successfully completed his mission and returned home by plane. He wrote the feeling of attending the meeting and the confidence of winning the war of resistance in his poem: "It's a quick journey in one's life, and it's always a long journey in the air. Riding the wind and waves is not a false word, but the clouds are floating. Europe is not suffering for the time being, and Japan will offer its enemies to the prisoners. There is a bright road ahead, and don't forget to hide the twists and turns."
