In 2022, the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University will celebrate its ninetieth birthday. Ninety years of wind and rain, ninety years of annual fire, ninety years of spring and autumn. In the past 90 years, adhering to the school motto of Tsinghua University of "continuous self-improvement and moral integrity", the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as an important force in the construction of engineering disciplines in Tsinghua University, insists on establishing morality and cultivating people, actively serving the national strategic needs and the main battlefield of the national economy, and has made important contributions to the talent training, scientific and technological development and economic construction of the motherland.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University was founded in 1932. Its predecessor was the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University Institute of Technology. It was one of the earliest engineering departments established in Tsinghua. After several changes, on December 27, 2012, with the approval of the school, a new Department of Mechanical Engineering was established by the faculty and staff of the former Department of Mechanical Engineering and the former Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanics, and the construction of Tsinghua University was based on it. At present, the Department of Machinery has scientific research bases such as the State Key Laboratory of Tribology, the Key Laboratory of Advanced Forming and Manufacturing of Ministry of Education, the Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control, the Beijing Key Laboratory of Biological Manufacturing and Rapid Prototyping Technology, and the International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of Innovative Design and Manufacturing of High-end Equipment, there are also many teaching centers or bases, such as the national experimental teaching demonstration center of mechanical engineering, the national experimental teaching demonstration center of virtual simulation of digital manufacturing system, the national engineering practice education center, the national engineering machinery basic teaching demonstration center, the modern testing teaching center and the creative design laboratory. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a high-level teaching and research team, with a total of 172 faculty members, including 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 16 national high-level talents, 15 national young high-level talents, 1 winner of the National Teaching Teacher Award, and 5 winners of the Beijing Teaching Teacher Award. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, the mechanical engineering discipline of Tsinghua University was rated as A.
In the past ten years, the teachers and students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering have made a series of breakthrough academic achievements, cultivated a large number of outstanding talents, and wrote a glorious chapter of serving education and society.
Beidao and striving for the first place, the mechanical department has always been striving for loyalty to the country and taking on the road.
In the past ten years, the mechanical department has made continuous efforts to face the major national needs and international frontiers, forming a significant influence. For example, aiming at the "stuck neck" problem of integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing, it has made major breakthroughs in the research and development of chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) equipment and lithography duplex sets, breaking foreign monopolies and successfully realizing industrialization. After ten years of cooperation with Shanghai Steam Turbine Factory, jointly completed the manufacture of my country's first AP1000 nuclear power plant 1:1 low-voltage welding test rotor and the world's first million-class ultra-supercritical thermal power welding low-voltage rotor; developed more than ten sets of advanced robot equipment for aviation manufacturing, developed aviation advanced manufacturing technology and assembly line core technology, and successfully applied them to important national defense aviation projects; developed low-temperature deposition forming technology and cell three-dimensional controlled assembly technology, the formation of the international unique biological manufacturing core technology, the development of the world's largest single-cylinder 40000-ton die forging hydraulic press, the new crown epidemic, the rapid response of the mechanical department, the development of temperature measurement robots, throat swab sampling robots and other equipment, to help the national epidemic prevention and control battle.
The string songs continue to be handed down from generation to generation, and the mechanical department has always been forging ahead on the road of cultivating talents for the country and pursuing excellence.
The goal of personnel training in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to train a group of academic masters, talents or pillars of governance in the field of mechanical engineering by teaching students in accordance with their aptitude. In 2013, the pilot project of excellent engineering education reform was completed; in 2014, the enrollment and training system of "mechanical engineering experimental class" was implemented; in 2020, the double degree training mode of mathematical basic science and mechanical engineering was added. Integrating advanced educational concepts and Internet media, six MOOC courses have been opened in the past ten years. In terms of internationalization, we have signed double master programs with Aachen University of Technology and Berlin University of Technology in Germany. In the process of talent training and exploration, Academician Luo Jianbin put forward the "double T" talent training direction of innovative academic ideas (Creative Thoughts) and leading industry technology (Leading Technology), which has an important influence in Tsinghua University, and its influence has gradually spread to the whole country.
The years are extraordinary, Do not forget your initiative mind, and the mechanical department has always struggled on the road of seeking truth and serving the society.
Aiming at the forefront of the world, leading academic development, establishing a joint laboratory for international cooperation in innovative design and manufacturing of high-end equipment, and undertaking 77 international cooperation projects; The Department of Mechanical Engineering established the first domestic English journal in the field of tribology, Friction, and the teachers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering initiated the first international academic journal in the field of biological 3D printing, Biofabrication; Academician Wen Shizhu and Academician Luo Jianbin won the "International Gold Award in Tribology" and STLE International Award ", A number of achievements (such as ultra-smooth research) are internationally leading; a series of papers have been published in top international journals such as Science. Serving economic development, providing intellectual transformation, building Tsinghua University Tianjin High-end Equipment Research Institute, forming a scientific and technological achievements transformation model integrating production, teaching and research; presided over the compilation of national integrated circuit manufacturing, tribology and mechanical watch interface related national important industry development programmatic documents, In the development of mechanical engineering industry has played a core strategic think tank role.
