RoboCup Soccer Robot Competition (Part 1)

This issue will focus on the human-like group and the medium-sized group competition.

RoboCup Humanoid Group Project

The humanoid group robot football match (RoboCup Humanoid League) is one of the earliest football leagues in the RoboCup competition. Since the debut of the Humanoid League in RoboCup 2002, the progress speed and number of scientific and technological achievements of the participating teams have been remarkable. Humanoid soccer robot involves many basic disciplines and many cutting-edge technologies. Its ultimate goal is not to complete the competition between robot football teams, but to realize the competition between robot football teams and human football teams. Therefore, humanoid soccer robots are very challenging.

To this end, the RoboCup International Committee changes the rules of the competition every year, gradually leading humanoid robots from easy to difficult to achieve the goal of robot and human confrontation in 2050. Participating humanoid robots must be fully autonomous, and the only allowed external sensors are human-like (I. e., there are no active distance sensors, and vision sensors are limited to humans with a 180-degree field of view). In addition, the size of the foot region is also very limited in terms of the height of the center of mass.

There are two forms of humanoid robot competition, 4v4 humanoid football competition and technical challenge competition. The 4v4 humanoid football match requires each participating team to provide a football team composed of 4 complete Kid-size robots to compete with the robot football teams of other teams and qualify for promotion or be eliminated. In the technical challenge, a team must complete difficult tasks such as "high jump, landslide, impact resistance, and ball picking" within a specified time and obtain corresponding scores. The development of a humanoid robot capable of playing football is a fundamental challenge for robotics research and the development of artificial intelligence. Since the beginning of the Human League in 2002, there have been many improvements in the hardware and software of the humanoid soccer robot.

RoboCup Medium Group Project

The Middle Size League (RoboCup Middle Size League) is one of the main events of the RoboCup competition. It has been an official event since the first RoboCup competition in 1997. In 2018, the size of the competition venue is 14 × 22 meters. The number of robots for each team on the field does not exceed 5. The volume of a single robot does not exceed 52 × 52 × 80cm, and the weight does not exceed 40kg. The yellow standard No. 5 football is used for the game. The competition requires the robot to be completely autonomous. Environmental perception, decision-making, motion control, communication, etc. must be completed by the robot itself, and no form of off-site intervention is allowed. Its research involves motion control, machinery and electronics, machine vision, wireless communication, multi-robot cooperation and many other contents. Since 2002, the China Robot Competition has set up RoboCup medium-sized robot competitions. Tongji University, South China University of Technology, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northeastern University, National Defense University of Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, Shanghai University, Shandong University, Beijing University of Information Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Hunan University, north china university of technology, Xiamen Institute of Technology and other universities have successively carried out research work on the project since 2008, A total of 47 schools have participated in the China Robot Competition and the RoboCup China Open medium-sized group competition, and 11 schools have participated in the RoboCup World Cup medium-sized group competition. The Chinese medium-sized team has achieved excellent results in international competitions. The Water team of Beijing University of Information Science and Technology has won five championships in the medium-sized group of the RoboCup World Cup (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017), two runners-up (2014, 2016) and one third runner-up (2012). The NuBot team of the National University of Defense Technology has also won the runner-up (2015) and third runner-up (2010, 2015, 2016, 2017) of the RoboCup World Cup medium-sized technical challenges.

In the next period, we will introduce you
