[Person Interview] Hello, I'm Guo Qijiang

"Doing what you like will not waste your life. Doing useful things will make you feel happy." The person who said this sentence is the guest of our interview in this issue of "People Interview", Guo Qijiang, the executive deputy director of the Institute of Power Transmission Application Technology of our college. Many people's work experience revolves around one thing. Guo Qijiang is one of them. Let's enter today's "interview with people" to learn about Guo Qijiang and his transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
Hello, Miss Guo. I'm especially glad that you are willing to take time out of your busy schedule to interview us as a guest in this issue. Let's talk about your previous experience and some recent developments in our mobile communication institute. First of all, please introduce yourself!

Hello, everyone! I am Guo Qijiang, executive deputy director of the Institute of Power Transmission Application Technology. I am very happy to meet you. I graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University in 1984 and then worked in Tianjin. Tianjin is my hometown. After Tsinghua graduated, I returned to work in Tianjin. I was very looking forward to it at that time. When I was in school, I was a member of Tsinghua Economic Management Association. Shenzhen was also very attractive at that time, but I still chose Tianjin.

At that time, as a graduate of Tsinghua University, he was the favorite of heaven, and he returned to his hometown to contribute to Tianjin. What is your work experience after graduation?

After I graduated from university, my first job in Tianjin was at the Tianjin Institute of Electrical Engineering. This institute was originally established in the 1950 s. It was disbanded during the Cultural Revolution. When I graduated, I resumed and rebuilt again. It is a challenging entrepreneurial process. Our research institute brought together experts in motor design and technology to develop products and technologies. At that time, I used my advantages in computer software to compile a computer design program for speed-regulating motors, shortening the design of a plan in the past 10 days to 1 hour. Our technology is not only transferred to large state-owned enterprises such as Shanghai Pioneer, Tianjin Electric, and CNOOC. At the same time, in the tide of developing township enterprises, we have supported many township enterprises in Jiangsu, Shandong, and Hebei. In township enterprises, we must teach enterprises how to produce and manufacture. Even workers have to go to training and counseling. This stage of work has given me a profound experience and understanding of the industrialization of scientific research results.
My second job was in Tianjin Welding Research Institute, which was one of the three major welding research institutes in China at that time, and was the centralized research institute of welding auxiliary machinery of the Ministry of Machinery. During the welding research institute, I compiled a computer-aided design program for amorphous iron core transformers, which was developed earlier in China for welding inverter power supply. The skin effect was overcome by winding and weaving transposition, and the temperature rise of the transformer was effectively reduced. During this period, I also organized the preparation of a computer-aided design system for welding equipment and independently developed a mechanical feature module, which greatly improved the design efficiency of the welding machine.
My third period of work was from 1995 to 2010 in the Tianjin Science and Technology Commission (now Tianjin Science and Technology Bureau) system. Responsible for the management of optical mechatronics and advanced manufacturing technology projects, organized and implemented major application demonstration projects such as "Tianjin CAD Application Project", "CIMS Application Demonstration Project", and "Manufacturing Informatization Demonstration Project", and established Tianjin Manufacturing Industry Informatization Productivity Promotion Center to lead the manufacturing informatization work in nine northern provinces and cities.
From 2010 to 2016, I established a technology transfer and incubation center in Kunshan Industrial Technology Research Institute, and participated in the work of Tsinghua University to establish a think tank of Kunshan Industrial Innovation Research Institute to serve Kunshan technology transfer and industrial development.
Although a lot of work has been changed, every piece of work revolves around technology transfer. Although I didn't understand the concept of technology transfer at first, I often say that I "hit it by mistake" on the road of technology transfer.

Indeed, from your previous experience, each paragraph is related to technology transfer and industrial transformation. Then what kind of opportunity brought you to the high-end hospital?
At the end of 2016, he came to Tsinghua Tianjin High-end Hospital.
When it comes to the high-end hospital, I think one is Tsinghua's love and the other is hometown's love. I heard that Tsinghua University built a high-end equipment research institute in Tianjin. At that time, it also hoped to productize and engineer the innovative results on the Tianjin platform, so that the results can produce value. In addition, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology of Tsinghua University has many innovative research results in the field of electromagnetic transmission that need to be transformed, and some Tsinghua alumni also have such needs for innovative results in transmission. Professor Chai Jianyun from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology of Tsinghua University is an academic leader in this field. As soon as we discussed, we decided to apply for the establishment of the Institute of Power Transmission Application Technology.
In fact, this road is very difficult, and there will be many problems in the transformation of innovative achievements. The high-end hospital provides us with a good platform to help us go on this road.

It seems that there is an opportunity and story behind the establishment of each of our scientific research teams. The Institute of Dynamic Transmission has also experienced 4 years of development since its establishment. What are the main research and development directions and goals of the institute now?
The projects done in the past few years are relatively focused, focusing on the needs of the country's economic development and industrial development, and are carried out under the guidance of market demand.
President Xi proposed "2030 carbon peak, 2060 carbon neutral". China has promised to reduce carbon emissions and save energy and reduce carbon. This target is set more harshly than developed countries. The proposal of the energy revolution has made China resounding the world. The goal of "carbon neutrality" has made China's energy revolution a strong protector of the earth. Energy conservation and carbon reduction should finally be supported by equipment. Photovoltaic, wind power, hydrogen energy and electric transportation will have a great chance to become the world's super leading industry.
The country has invested tens of trillions in clean energy, and we can no longer occupy most of the market and high-end equipment by foreign countries. Recently, we have come up with a plan for the "Clean Energy Equipment Innovation Valley", hoping to make a breakthrough in this field, serve the clean energy industry, and provide technical support for intelligent manufacturing and production innovation. The equipment we are currently developing and transforming does not follow foreign countries. They are all completely independent innovations. At least the goal is better than the most advanced foreign technology. We have our own place in this field and have our own strengths. Only in this way can we have the right to speak. After several years of cultivation, the institute has also made a series of achievements, and different achievements are currently in several different stages of development.

Please introduce the industrialization process of these achievements in detail.
At present, the institute mainly focuses on clean energy equipment and intelligent manufacturing equipment.
According to maturity, the closest thing to the industry is our port shore-based power supply system.
I explained that when the ship docked, the air pollution at the port was serious due to the fuel generator. Therefore, the way to eliminate pollution is to switch off the generator on board and switch to the shore power source.
The general standard of international ship power frequency is 60Hz, while the power frequency of our country is 50Hz. Therefore, if the ship's port uses shore power, there is a problem that the power frequency must be converted. Most of the existing shore power systems use semiconductor converters to change the power frequency. Due to the limited capacity of carrying short-circuit current, it is easy to cause damage to power devices in the event of short-circuit impact or overload operation, and there are many problems such as difficult access technology and long time.
Our research and development team uses the three-phase rotating electromagnetic field commutation and frequency modulation technology to make a core device for transforming the frequency and voltage of the power supply, completing the provision of shore power to ships docked at the wharf, and solving all the problems caused by the previous shore power access at one time. At present, the device has passed the principle prototype test and fully achieved the expected effect, and has the conditions for industrial transformation.
The second technology is the electromagnetic planetary gear developed by us. Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, it realizes non-contact transmission with the same characteristics as the mechanical planetary gear, and can realize stepless speed regulation. Applied in wind power generation, synchronous generators can be used directly connected to the grid to improve the utilization rate of wind energy, improve the quality of power supply and improve the reliability of the system. Therefore, the cost of construction and operation and maintenance is greatly reduced. If it can be widely promoted and applied, it will certainly promote the rapid development of wind power.
In addition, distributed photovoltaic power generation, new energy power transmission equipment, energy storage technology and equipment related to clean energy equipment are also relatively mature and are all in progress.
There is also in the field of intelligent manufacturing. We focus on promoting the application and transformation of digital twin technology and AI robot visual tracking system. The application of these common technologies in clean energy equipment manufacturing enterprises will certainly enhance the competitiveness of enterprises and achieve good benefits.

After listening to these results, I feel that the market space is particularly huge and my heart is surging.

Ha ha, yes, we were very excited when discussing these projects. I think these things are very meaningful. If they can be successfully applied, they can effectively promote the development of the clean energy equipment industry.

It seems that this is also the goal of the institute. Is it more consistent with your personal goal?

I think my personal goal is to do something beneficial around the fields of clean energy, energy conservation and environmental protection, so that these independent innovation technologies can realize their value. This value is not only economic value, but also social value.
In fact, my main goal now is to have more people join in.
I hope to build an innovation platform around clean energy equipment. Innovation often requires cross-field cooperation. Clean energy equipment is also a field of high-end equipment. I hope that people in clean energy-related fields can gather on this platform and more people can participate. This market is very large. It is very meaningful and full of hope to integrate the resources of the government and enterprises, strive for various resources as far as possible, and effectively promote this industry.

I think what you said is particularly good. Our country now encourages original innovation and independent innovation, so that these innovative technologies can be successfully applied to accelerate the development of this industry and industry, and formally what we hope to do. I 've been talking about my work. Finally, can you introduce your family situation? I heard that your daughter is very excellent. Can you introduce her growth experience?

My daughter actually belongs to the kind of character who is more practical in doing things and can study some things quietly. Her middle school is in Yaohua experimental class, her undergraduate course is in China University of Science and Technology, and her doctoral and postdoctoral students are in Tsinghua. I think that children's education is first of all "teaching by example is better than teaching by words", just like the Tsinghua school motto said "deeds speak louder than words"; secondly, parents should "let go" and let their children do it by themselves. Own experience, not necessarily suitable for every family.

It seems that it is not only a practical problem, but also brilliant and outstanding. Finally, I would like to ask you a question, that is, are there any special things in your life or people who have a great influence on you and affect your values and attitude towards life?
Two seniors who have worked together in Tsinghua have had a great influence on me. One is Chen Yao, a senior who graduated from Tsinghua Electrical Engineering Department, who worked together to make frequency conversion equipment for offshore oil production platforms. He was only the chief engineer of an enterprise at that time. However, overcoming many difficulties, he finally led the then Ministry of Machinery and the Ministry of Petroleum to jointly introduce advanced oil production equipment technology, which made me more deeply understand what it is to be "humble without forgetting the worries of the country". Ordinary people can do big things. Then there is teacher Liu Zhentao from Tsinghua University, for whom I have been an assistant for several years. He once said this sentence: "People who live without doing something meaningful are equivalent to a dung machine." His life was like this, like a candle burning dry, emitting light and heat every minute of his life.
Therefore, people live to do meaningful things, and many senior students who have come into contact with Tsinghua are my role models.

After listening to your story, I was also very touched. Finally, I hope you can achieve a double harvest of economic value and social value on the platform of the Institute. Finally, we took several questions from Brewster's questionnaire and asked Miss Guo to give them a simple answer.

After 200 years of history, the confidence of the Chinese people has not yet been established!

With the layout of the country's "14th Five-Year Plan", my country's goal of entering the forefront of an innovative country is clear. Emerging technology industries have taken over low-end manufacturing as an endogenous driving force for economic development, artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of Things, energy conservation and environmental protection, etc. Many industries and industries will also usher in a huge period of development opportunities and market space. How to seize the historical opportunity period to realize industrial value and promote industry development with independent innovation as soon as possible, having more leading technology and voice in the world is exactly what team leaders like Guo Qijiang have been tirelessly exploring and pursuing. Finally, I wish Mr. Guo greater success in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Thank you for your attention to this issue of "People Interview". See you next time!
