The relations and interests of various countries can only be coordinated by systems and rules, and we cannot listen to whoever has a big fist. Major countries should take the lead in being advocates and defenders of the international rule of law, abide by their promises, refrain from exceptionalism, double standards, and distort international law, infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of other countries and undermine international peace and stability in the name of the rule of law.
The third is to promote cooperation. Promoting international cooperation is the original intention of the United Nations and an important purpose of the Charter of the United Nations. Relying on the Cold War mentality, drawing lines with ideology, and engaging in zero-sum games will not solve the problems of the country, let alone the common challenges facing mankind. What we need to do is to replace conflict with dialogue, replace coercion with consultation, replace zero sum with win-win, combine our own interests with the common interests of all countries, strive to expand the convergence of common interests of all countries, and build a harmonious and cooperative international family.
Four is focused action. To practice multilateralism, we should not sit back and talk about it, but should act on it. We should not just prescribe prescriptions without curative effect. The United Nations should take problem-solving as the starting point, take visible results as the guidance, and promote security, development, and human rights in a balanced manner. In particular, it should take the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as an opportunity to address non-traditional security challenges such as public health as the United Nations. Priority work, put development issues in a prominent position in the global macro framework, and pay more attention to the promotion and protection of the right to survival and development.
