The "abbreviation" in the official document is error-prone, and several examples help you avoid it.
Abbreviations in official documents are easy to make mistakes and sometimes even make jokes. Here, through some examples, talk about how to try to avoid such mistakes.
Do not change the abbreviation at will.For example, the "National Two Sessions" cannot be said to be "National Two Sessions". This is not only a convention, but also a very appropriate summary. "Erguang Expressway" cannot be written as "Liangguang Expressway", because the "Erguang Expressway" here refers specifically to the expressway from Erlianhot City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous region to Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province, not from Guangxi to Guangdong. In reality, some documents do have "two Guang Expressway" written as "two Guang Expressway.
Abbreviations cannot be applied at will.For example, at the session of the National people's Congress, it is necessary to examine the work reports of the Supreme people's Court and the Supreme people's Procuratorate respectively, and some media refer to the "reports of the two courts" or the "reports of the two supreme courts". At the provincial people's Congress meeting, the corresponding report should also be deliberated. Some media followed the gourd and wrote: "the provincial people's Congress meeting deliberated the 'two high reports '". That's just wrong. Because the full name of the provincial-level court is "×× Provincial Higher People's Court", which has the word "advanced", while the full name of the provincial-level procuratorate is "×× Provincial People's Procuratorate", not "×× Provincial Higher People's Procuratorate", there is no word "advanced" at all. This cannot be referred to as the "two supreme courts" for short, but only as the "two supreme courts" for short ".
Attention should be paid to the timely adjustment of abbreviations.For example, there is a kind of administrative region called "district". Taking Hunan Province as an example, there used to be regional-level administrative regions such as regions, prefecture-level cities, and autonomous prefectures, which are generally referred to as "prefectures, cities, and prefectures". Do not use abbreviations when it is easy to cause misunderstanding.For example, some writings point out that "Einstein worked at Princeton", which readers often understand as Princeton University. In fact, the institution where Einstein works is the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study. Although it and Princeton University are both located in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, they are two institutions. In order to prevent readers from misunderstanding and expressing more accurately, it is best to write the full name instead of using abbreviations.
When the abbreviation is reduced to the full name, it should be standardized and rigorous.For example, the full name of "XX Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection" is "Communist Party of China XX Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection", not "Communist Party of China XX Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection"; the full name of "XX Provincial Committee for Political and Legal Affairs" is "Communist Party of China XX Provincial Committee Political and Legal Committee", not "Communist Party of China XX Provincial Political and Legal Committee". When writing official documents, you must carefully distinguish them. When you are not sure, you should check the official website, consult the reference books, or consult the staff of the relevant units who are familiar with the business.
