The first girls' school founded by the Communist Party of China

On February 10, 1922, the Party organization, in the name of the Chinese Women's Federation, founded the first girls' school, the civilian girls' school, at No. 623, Fudeli, Chengdu Road, Shanghainan (now No. 42~44, Lane 7, Chengdu North Road).

Principal Li Da once summarized the characteristics of the civilian girls' school: "1. set up a work department for women who are unable to study, introduce jobs for them, so that they can get wages to maintain their own lives, and practice work-study mutual aid. 2. set up special class professors for female workers who are older and out of school to instill the most knowledge in the shortest time. 3. set up special class professors for a class of women who do not want to receive mechanical education, so that they can freely complete their individuality." Therefore, the civilian girls' school is the first school for our party to fight for women's liberation and train women cadres.

The teachers of the civilian girls' school were quite strong. The early communists Li Da, Chen Duxiu, Gao Yuhan, Chen Wangdao, Shao Lizi, Shen Yanbing and Shen Zemin all served in the school. Female faculty members Gao Junman and Wang will be enlightened.

Civilian girls' schools have courses in politics, Chinese, English, mathematics, physics and chemistry, economics, and pedagogy. The educational content is new teaching materials that adapt to new trends of thought and inspire revolutionary consciousness. The school implements part-time work and part-time study, with sewing classes, socks knitting classes and a manual workshop. Students are engaged in sewing clothes and socks after school, and use their own labor income to supplement tuition fees and daily expenses.

As most of the teachers in civilian girls' schools were responsible for heavy party work and funding was tight, civilian girls' schools were also closed at the end of 1922. However, many of the students who attended civilian girls' schools later became the backbone of our party's leadership in women's work.
