Liu Bocheng's Family Style
After liberation, Liu Bocheng served as the first municipal party secretary, mayor and director of the military management committee of Nanjing. He paid great attention to contact with the masses and opposed specialization, especially for his children and their families.
When the PLA first entered the city, Liu Bocheng told his wife, "now that the country is liberated, the country is still very poor, and the people's life is not rich. Our life, especially the life of our children, must not be special, but should be roughly equivalent to the life of the masses."
One day, Liu Bocheng took his children to visit the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. When he got there, he realized that the park could not receive visitors for some reason. When Liu Bocheng was about to return, the responsible cadre of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum came to invite them to visit, but he refused. On the way home, Liu Bocheng said to his children, "although my father is a senior cadre, like ordinary staff, he serves the people, so he should also act in accordance with the regulations and should not be specialized."
Liu Bocheng was also very supportive of his children's participation in labor and education in the countryside. He often said, "The children of cadres are well-off, and if they are separated from the masses for a long time, they will develop a bourgeois consciousness."
In 1964, Liu Bocheng's youngest daughter, Liu Miqun, was studying at the Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It coincided with the socialist education movement being launched in the countryside. College students had to go to the countryside to participate in eight months of "social education" activities. After Liu Bocheng learned about it, he was very supportive of Liu Miqun's participation, and said to her earnestly: "It is a good thing to go to the countryside. Don't let people say that we are'nobles in the red wall '."
In the telephone room of Liu Bocheng's home, there has always been a notice-children, these phones are for your father's office by the party and the state. You must never use these phones for personal matters. It is the style of the Kuomintang to pretend to be public and private, and it is not allowed to be brought into our house.
After 1970, Liu Bocheng's children married one after another, but they all lived with the employees of the unit. After the eldest son Liu Taihang got married, he has been living in a 9-square-meter house allocated by the unit. The kitchen and toilet are shared. It was not until Liu Taihang's child was born that the unit replaced them with an 18-square-meter suite.
