The Global Council of Deans of Engineering (GEDC) was established in 2008 in Paris, France, with its current headquarters and secretariat in the United States. The committee is strongly supported by the International Union of Engineering Education Society (IFEES). At present, leaders of well-known university engineering colleges and industrial leaders from more than 30 countries have joined. The annual meeting of GEDC is held in different member states every year. The task of the annual meeting is to build a platform for global engineering education leaders and global engineering college deans to discuss the current situation and development direction of engineering education and research in the context of globalization. Luo Jianbin, male, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tribology Expert, Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He is currently the director of the State Key Laboratory of Tribology, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Dean of the Tianjin High-end Equipment Research Institute of Tsinghua University; concurrently Vice Chairman of the International Council of Tribology, International Federation of Institutional and Machine Science Chairman of the Tribology Technology Committee; served as the chief of two 973 projects, head of the innovation group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Chairman of Tribology. He has served as chief editor, deputy chief editor or editorial board member of 7 domestic and foreign academic journals. He has long been engaged in nano-tribology and nano-manufacturing research. He has won 7 National Invention Third Prize, National Natural Science Second Prize, National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize and Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Awards. In 2013, he won the American STLE International Award; he has made more than 20 special reports at international academic conferences, including 13 Plenary and Keynote reports. Published 1 English monograph, participated in editing 1 English monograph, translated 1 English monograph; published and co-published more than 250 papers, SCI included more than 150 articles, he cited more than 2000 times; authorized more than 20 national invention patents.
