Continuous Optimization of the Structure of Party Members

According to the latest inner-party statistics of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, by the end of 2023, the total number of members of the Communist Party of China was 99.185 million, a net increase of 1.144 million over the previous year. There were 5.176 million grass-roots party organizations, a net increase of 111000 over the previous year. The Communist Party of China adheres to the clear guidance of grasping the grassroots level, continues to strengthen the foundation, make up for the shortcomings, continue to tighten up and implement a strong organizational system, comprehensively strengthen the construction of the party member team, and give full play to the role of the grassroots party organization as a battle fortress and the vanguard of party members The exemplary role enables the party to always maintain vigorous vitality and strong combat effectiveness.
The total number of party members increased steadily. the total number of party members increased by 1.2 percent over the previous year. In the whole year, 2.408 million party members were recruited, of which 1.276 million were in the front line of production and work, accounting for 53.0 per cent; 1.28 million were with college education or above, accounting for 53.1 per cent; and 1.983 million were 35 and under, accounting for 82.4 per cent.
The structure of party members continues to be optimized. By the end of 2023, there were 55.786 million party members with college degree or above, accounting for 56.2 percent, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over the previous year, 30.185 million female party members, accounting for 30.4 percent, an increase of 0.5 percentage points over the previous year, and 7.592 million ethnic minority party members, accounting for 7.7 percent, an increase of 0.1 percentage points over the previous year. Workers and peasants remain the mainstay of the Party membership, accounting for 33.0 per cent of the total.
the education and management of party members has been continuously strengthened. Party organizations at all levels have carried out in-depth education on the theme of studying and implementing Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and strengthened the education and training of party members. A total of 1.266 million training courses were held throughout the year, and party committees at or above the county level concentrated on training 6.173 million grassroots party organization secretaries in rotation. The party's organizational life is strictly standardized. 3199 local party committee leadership groups hold democratic life meetings, 4.443 million party branches hold organizational life meetings and carry out democratic appraisal of party members, and 4.549 million party branches carry out "three meetings and one lesson" and theme party days in accordance with regulations. Party organizations at all levels commended 138000 advanced grass-roots party organizations, 693000 outstanding Party members and 199000 outstanding party workers. In the whole year, 795000 commemorative medals of "50 years of glory in the party" were awarded.
Grass-roots Party organizations have been further consolidated. A total of 298000 grass-roots party committees, 325000 general branches and 4.554 million branches have been set up throughout the country, an increase of 9000, 5000 and 97000 respectively over the previous year, and the organizational setup is more scientific and standardized. Grasping party building to promote rural revitalization has been solidly promoted, and the team building of village party organization leaders has been continuously strengthened. Among the 488000 village party organization secretaries, 44.0 have a college degree or above, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over the previous year. Continue to send and make good use of the first secretary in the village. The current first secretary in the village is 206000, covering 42.2 of the administrative villages in the country. The system and mechanism of the party leading grass-roots governance has been further improved, the strength of party building in urban and rural communities has been enriched, and the overall effectiveness of party building leading grass-roots governance has been continuously improved. The coverage of party organizations in various fields has been continuously consolidated and expanded, new achievements have been made in the party building work of government organs, institutions, enterprises and social organizations, and the political and organizational functions of grass-roots party organizations have been continuously enhanced.
